Bird Watch

Both Henrik and I are pretty active birders (Henrik is actually very good at spotting birds!).  During our travels, we hope to add many more birds to our life list. I would also like to perfect my photo-taking skills and post my own pictures but, in the meantime, click on the links to see photographs! Here is my money shot, so far – Glittering-bellied Emerald Hummingbird (female) from the Delta del Paraná.

So far, I’ve been using Birds of Southern South America and Antarctica by Martin R. De La Pena and Maurice Rumboll and it’s been a great resource. However, I will need to buy additional books for Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador (and most of Brazil if we decide, later on, to go there), so I think I’m going to invest in Aves de Sudamerica (2 volume set) by Jorge Rodriguez Mata which cover all of South America. One drawback is that they are only available in spanish…but really, how many different ways can you say “pico” (beak or bill) or “plumas de la cola” (tail feathers) in spanish? On second thought, probably many more ways than I can imagine!
