We’re Karen and Henrik, set to go on an Adventure for 15 – 18 months. Our plan is to drive around South America for 6 – 8 months, do community service in Africa for 6 months, and then travel around South East Asia for 3 months.

Brief backgrounds on who we are.

Henrik: Dad, CEO / engineer / geek.
Most recently I was the CEO of a high-tech, venture capital funded, company in Boulder. I loved the company, and my job. It’s rare, and a privilege, to work with a team that is so motivated and dedicated, and to have the opportunity to work with some of the smartest, literally, people in the world. I love books, skiing, traveling, fly-fishing, engineering, bourbon and good wine.

Karen: Mom, Librarian
My most recent position was as the Lower School Librarian at Colorado Academy, an amazing independent school located in Denver, Colorado. Ohhhhhhh, it was so hard to leave such an incredible place but am so excited (and, let’s face it, so scared) for this adventure. I know that I will come out of this a changed person and I’m ready for it! I love to read, ski, hike, travel and enjoy good wine as well!

  1. Henrik and Karen–

I read with great interest about your delta experience and your polo spectating. Both sounded fantastic. The photo of the “polo crush” didn’t fool me…I could tell that was Henrik so don’t even bother trying to tell me it was some Argentinian guy.

By now I hope you have claimed your vehicle and are mobile. But I’m sure the last week was a good adventure for you. Out of changed plans come some of the most memorable travel experiences.

Speaking of travel experiences, I am just back from Madagascar. The lemurs were wonderful. We had 12 people on our trip representing 7 different countries. The most amazing traveler was Robert Dowdall, a blind gentleman from Ireland who loves to travel. He lost his sight in a car accident when he was 21 but that does not stop him. We were able to get a lemur up on his shoulder so he could feel it. A great experience for everyone.

I’m enjoying your blog and will continue to visit it regularly. Paraguay reunion?!?!

  2. Henrik and Karen:

Hi, I am Laura’s boss, and the president of BTG-Expotrans in Buenos Aires. Laura shared with me the link to your site and the lovely comments you made about her service to you, together with Oscar, the patient despachante (customs broker). I admire you for the great initiative you are showing in your adventure, and wish you the very best. I am an American who has lived in South America for 25 years, enjoy the latino culture, and appreciate the incredible beauty of this land and its people. I wish you the very best. Enjoy!!!
